The world of Dishonored is fantastic, if not wholly original, with its steampunk trappings and the Thief nods. A rotten industrial wasteland, besieged by human greed and cruelty, under the watchful eye of The Outsider. The story and characters are not the highpoints of this tale, but rather Dunwall itself. Every space is worth playing with and losing myself in. No other developer that i'm aware of has such tight and expansive level design, with so much care put into how it informs everything else, from the joys of exploration, to worldbuilding and encounter design. Everything they touch is gold as far as i'm concerned. From Arx Fatalis to Dark Messiah to Prey. I am super impressed and love parts of the game but I can't say my experience was only a positive one.Īrkane might be the only developer of which i truly love every game i've played. How NPCs react to different things like where you stand and what you wear, the animations of Link when he opens chests depending on a bunch of things and those horses are definitely the best I've seen in a game so far. They seem to have thought about everything when it comes to that. This game also has the best animations and details I've seen. I also liked most of the shrines and all of The Champion's Ballad content. The Lynel fights were probably where I had the most fun. Thankfully the game is superb in many other ways, the combat can be very fun and one of the things I did to feel that I had 100%-ed it even tho I didn't get all the Korok seeds (who is that insane?) was to kill every single "miniboss" (Lynel, Talus and such) on the map. I am not a fan of bosses in general but I think I found a new low with this game. nothing, the characters are bland and I didn't like the voice acting (especially for Zelda). The map could have been 1/3 of what it is and nothing would have been lost for me. Some of the shrine quests were just tedious. The world is empty and dreadfully dead and all of the side quests were super simple fetch quests. I get that people like it but I can't see what it good about it. I guess I am just too fond of things like finding random settlements and side quests with stories. But wow I am not impressed with this open world approach. I spent 155 hours on this and mostly had a good time, so don't come saying I am just shitting on the game.
